Wheat Stitch™ Mushrooms

The Wheat Stitch Mushrooms are a two-piece amigurumi set worked in my signature Wheat Stitch, a modified puff stitch pattern that creates a beautifully braided, textured cap. These woodland-inspired mushrooms come in two sizes and finish with a crocheted fern accent for a complete cottage-core display piece.

The base is worked from the bottom up and finishes with a scalloped ruffle edge. The cap is worked from the top down, shaping a dome and curving back toward the rim until the stitch count exactly matches the base. The two pieces join with a single slip-stitch seam, no sewing required, so the finish is clean and continuous. Stuffing beads are optional but add a satisfying weighted feel to the finished mushroom.

Both the Small (5.5” tall x 4.5” wide) and Large (7” tall x 6” wide) sizes are included in the pattern, and changing your yarn weight will further affect the finished size.

Special Stitches:
Wheat Stitch / Puff Stitch: Yarn over, insert hook, yarn over and pull up a long loop. Yarn over, insert hook into the same st, yarn over, and pull up a long loop (5 loops on the hook). Yarn over and pull through first 4 loops, yarn over and pull through remaining loops.

Invisible sc2tog: Insert hook into front loop of first st, then front loop of second st. Yarn over and pull through both front loops, yarn over and pull through remaining loops.

GAUGE:
12 sts and 17 rows = 4” x 4” in stitch pattern repeat, not critical for this pattern.
